tony more was the italo disco project of marzio benelli and andrea venturoli from firenze, italy. marzio specialized in sound engineering at various recording studios in milan throughout the early 1980s. he opened emme studio where we worked with major national and international artists. in 1984 he met andrea, a sound programmer who knew his way around analog synthesizers. their first collaboration was that same year on the song “computer sourire” for alexander robotnick debut album. in 1985 the duo recorded ‘tonight’, the debut single for the vocalist tony more that was released the same year on sensation records.

second release from the label offers up broken rhythms, jacking grooves and deep spirituals. hold me explores lyricism within tight repetitious rhythm, on which saxophonist tyrone isaac-stuart explores hook lines and story telling whilst bassist jordan christo maintains control over the low-end spectrum. that he man of hers melds jacking, upbeat tempo with romanticism and melancholy on top, with louis ktisti providing guitar accompaniment. one s own permanent faith, on the other hand, provides for a moodier and more subdued spiritual dance rhythm, which warms one up before the spiritual explorations in would you tell me about you. in this final track, the guitar rhythms provided by jabriel alsuhaimi and spiritual exorcism of the saxophone by tyrone isaac-stuart present a different angle in the approach towards discovering the endless groove.

glyn -bigga- bush began his production career with rockers hi fi in the early 90s, co-writing several studio albums, a host of remixes and the infamous dj kicks - the black album. in 2000 he went solo as both biggabush and lightning head, making albums for sonar kollektiv and stereo deluxe as well as many more remixes. his sound reflects his love of dub reggae, analogue synthesisers and intricate rhythms, with influences of samba, afrobeat, the deep dubscapes of rhythm & sound and most recently the more interesting end of 140bpm bass music. this ep is his first vinyl release since the late 00s and takes in a number of bass-heavy rumblers with classic biggabush twists and turns, starting with the steppas delight of mangrove monkey, relentless subs and skanks of sounds & blues, post-dubstep breaks on dash way com and finishing with a minimal 4/4 fx soundscape on footsie index.

thomas leer is an innovative electronic musician from port glasgow, scotland. he began singing for a local band at age 13, and was writing his own music by 18. by 1977, he had moved to london, where he fronted pressure, a clash-esque punk group with fellow experimental scottish musician robert rental. after hearing kraftwerk, leer became interested in synthesizers – not long after, he was exploring the experimental techniques of eno, zappa, beefheart, faust, and can. in 1978, thomas released his first single, private plane / international , on his own oblique records that we reissued in 2015. 1979 is a 14-song collection spread across two pieces of vinyl clocking in at 70 minutes. leer says, 1979 was a great year for making music.

new years deal - a1 - luc marianni - six synthetic suites (anno stamm remix) berlin producer anstam’s remix of six synthetic suites is quite a trip. the producer has crafted a dubbed-out version, almost sub aquatic in its sound design, structured around a murky but driving techno beat on which he layers marianni’s sounds. exotic instruments, unusual timbres, daring melodies and even slapped bass: the contrast between these sounds and stamm’s grayscale groove is powerful. a2 vril - synthetic suite giegling artist vril uses samples from marianni’s six synthetic suites released in 1986 to produce this lovely slab of dub techno. carefully crafted, this track is all about soft edges, with a kind of blurry and hazy vibe that permeates it. a sense of motion is conveyed by the sparse but efficient rhythmic section, with chords and melodic elements giving the impression of floating. with much more contrast and complexity than it might seem at first listen, this is beyond your usual dub techno cut. b1 luc marianni - six synthetic suites (margaret dygas remix) also based in berlin, margaret dygas’ own remix of six synthetic suites is a deconstructed affair, built around a half step groove, ready to be used creatively in dj sets. somewhere between an ambient excursion and a more rhythmic jam, the producer uses a sparse palette of hallucinogenic, dizzying sounds with a dash of eerie darkness that gives this version a melancholic, unsettling nature. words by edouard isar.

daywalker & cf follow-up 2015 s shimmer and supersonic transport with more cosmic synth noodling and a club ready tune on bank records. entro senestre and willie burns always manage to hold together musical continuity while aimlessly jamming in burns smoky studio. it is their forte. with that being said, their style is not genre specific. one thing is for sure, the music is going to be trippy and synth driven. the title track wave force is a driving dance track built for big rooms, reminiscent of supersonic transport. the b-side features the producers implementing freaky synth lines and spacey sound effects on rhythm wolf. the final track, between worlds is somber. the track welcomes the occasional misplayed note along with sappy synth riffs. another solid release by daywalker & cf. cover photo by florian kupfer.

i released the original 12inch volume of five fingers of death battle breaks way back in 1998, while i was living in oakland and then san francisco during a time of incredible movement and creativity within the suddenly exploding scratch dj scene. the term turntablist, coined by dj disk, had yet to really catch on outside of the bay area scratch fraternity. having recently moved to california from new york, pauls turntable aesthetics were strictly 80s east coast and was more concerned with catching doubles (beat juggling) and overall party rocking. in other words, the science of scratching was not something i was even contemplating.needless to say, i was completely amazed and overwhelmed with what djs like qbert, shortcut, apollo and mixmaster mike were doing. paul hester created his cult moon music label in 1997 as a portal for his own productions and sounds. the label was short-lived, with only 3 releases in it s catalogue, all produced by hester himself. those few releases on moon are now highly sought after among house and techno aficionados who are forever seeking that deeper groove. the interesting part of this story, beyond the amazing music that was released, is that there are many other tracks that never saw the light of the day, thus leaving the full moon story untold. the electric wig ep was the first release on the label and is here in fully remastered reissue form, with all racks lovingly transferred from paul hester s private, personal dat stash. classic, deep uk techno sounds from the pre-millenium era, re-presented for the first time for 2017 s dancefloors. across these 2 tracks and 2 lock grooves we are treated to a sound that is timeless and will undoubtedly gain paul hester new fans while reminding those of us who were there in the late 90 s about his subtle and uniquely fresh production style.
